Trailblazing Female Aviator




One of the last surviving female World War II pilots has died.
Mary Ellis a trailblazing female aviator and one of the last surviving female World war 2 pilots, died July 24,2018 at the age of 101. Ellis took the skies in 1941 as part of Britain's air transport auxiliary in world war 2 after hearing an advertisement for female pilots on the radio. Her for ATA was to deliver warplanes of nearly 70 models of aircraft from factories to military bases.
Ellis flew around 1000 planes including 400 Spitfires, her personal favorite, and 47 Wellington bombers. 
Only three "Attagirls"- female pilots for ATA believe to be alive.
